As everyone knows, we’re dealing with an unprecedented and unpredictable situation. In our last newsletter, we mentioned that we were monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we did not think then that the pandemic would threaten our July Championship, circumstances have changed.
Based on the available information from the State of Illinois and local authorities, it seems unlikely that we will be able to have the Championship on the previously-scheduled July 18-19, 2020 dates. In an effort to give us the best chance of hosting the Championship all of our Wifflers are accustomed to, we have made the very difficult decision to reschedule this year’s Championship.
New Tournament Dates
The 2020 World Wiffle® Ball Championship will be played on September 19-20, 2020. We believe this date gives us the optimal chance of hosting the best possible Championship given the current circumstances.
If you have registered for the previous July 18-19, 2020 dates and cannot attend on the September 19-20, 2020 dates, we are willing to give you a refund. Please contact us if this applies to your team. We will continue to provide all updates about this year’s Championship in this space. Please follow us at the accounts listed at the bottom of this post for the latest information.
Since the Championship has moved back two months, all other deadlines have moved back two months as well:
- Registration Deadline: August 21, 2020.
- T-Shirt Deadline: August 14, 2020.
- Free Entry Raffle: Previously, we were holding a raffle for a free entry to this year’s Championship for all teams that registered by May 1, 2020. That deadline is now July 1, 2020. If you already registered, you’re still eligible. The new drawing will be held on July 4, 2020.
- Delayed Payment Option: We previously announced that we would be willing to accept a delayed payment for this year’s Championship. We still are. Register when you are able. Payment will not be required until August 1, 2020.
We do not anticipate any further updates, but please understand that this is an evolving situation. If and when there are any further updates, we will announce them here. Stay healthy. Stay safe. We’ll get through this. And we’ll keep beating that plastic.
