This is an exciting new chapter in the storied history of the World Wiffle® Ball Championship. We are grateful and thrilled to be entrusted with it. We first want to thank Jim for his vision and passion over the last 38 years to make this special event into what we know and love today.
Many of the teams that have played in this tournament over the last four decades are made of childhood friends and/or family, and we are no different. Having played together for 20+ years, the memories and fun that we have kept us coming back. World Wiffle® Ball Championship weekend reminds us of the fun we had playing, not only in previous tournaments, but also the countless games as teenagers in our backyards in Munster, Indiana. Now that we have been handed the reins to this great tournament, our love of wiffleball and this tournament will motivate us to preserve and continue growing what Jim has built.
We also want to thank everyone who has participated in both Mishawaka and Skokie, and invite you to register for this year’s Tournament on July 14-15 at Memorial Park in Midlothian, IL. As always, the entry fee will include shirts for all participants, and a minimum of four games on Saturday with the opportunity to qualify for Sunday’s single-elimination tournament. Teams have already started signing up, so don’t wait until the last minute to enter.
Our new location at Memorial Park will allow the tournament to continue to grow to accommodate wifflers from all over Chicagoland, Northern Indiana, and beyond. There are five full softball fields at the facility, which can be transformed into 30+ wiffleball diamonds, and we hope to hear plastic being beaten on all of them this summer. Memorial Park also features a central concession stand that will be serving a wide variety of food and drinks throughout the day. We scoured the Chicago suburbs and Northwest Indiana, and are confident that you will enjoy this exceptional complex.
Additionally, we have given a facelift to www.worldwiffleball.org. At the new website, you’ll find tournament information, rules, past results, photos, and be able to easily browse the history of this legendary tournament. We also will be posting some feature stories in advance of the tournament, including the return of the hit YouTube series: “Wiffleballers In Bars Having Beers.”
The World Wiffle® Ball Championship will still be what we have always loved: a weekend to get together with your friends and families and play the world’s best backyard game. We hope to see all of you this summer.
